An Asian man smiling

Asian men often get left out of skin care articles and it’s definitely not fair. For men new to the skin care scene, it can be incredibly overwhelming knowing where to start. Fortunately, we’ve done the hard work and found the best men’s moisturisers for Asian skin, the perfect place to start for your skin care routine!

Asian skin needs its own special attention, so we’ve looked at men’s moisturisers that will fit Asian men best.

If you’re Asian, you might find that your skin is sensitive to certain skin care products. Heat, cold and harsh chemicals can often irritate Asian skin easily, so it’s important to find skin care products that will support sensitive skin. Products with “sensitive skin” on the packaging or creams without harsh ingredients are great options.

Asian skin also tends to be oily and more susceptible to acne outbreaks compared to other skin types. Asian skin may also deal with spots of hyperpigmentation, freckles and general unevenness of skin tone with age rather than wrinkles, so moisturisers that help deal with these issues are ideal.

So yes, you’ll probably need to deal with excess oil, but you get to worry less about your skin rapidly aging. But what makes Asian skin resist symptoms aging longer? The secret is that the dermis of Asian skin is thick. The dermis is an important skin layer that contains collagen and elastin and these are responsible for ensuring your skin remains supple and elastic. The more collagen and elastin you have, the fewer wrinkles you get.

Why Are Moisturisers Important?

Your skin needs to be hydrated to be able to perform its best. That’s why it’s vital to have a solid moisturiser that fits your skin. Because it’s so important, you should be applying your moisturiser every day to keep your skin healthy. Even still, it’s great to find a moisturiser with SPF, to further protect your skin from the sun.

As we enter into the winter months, a great moisturiser is more important than ever. Dry, harsh weather conditions can wreak havoc on your skin, but having a solid face moisturiser can help protect you.

Plus, a typical men’s skin care routine needs to include a moisturiser. Never miss this important step!

How We Chose the Best Moisturiser for Men

Every skin care product, for men and women, are all different. However, what makes a product better than others?

For this list on face cream for men, we looked at various factors such as price, texture, consistency, availability and results. The best moisturisers are within your budget, with a hydrating and creamy consistency while still easily accessible. And of course, the best moisturisers provide positive results.

Before choosing the best face lotion for your skin, you will also need to determine what type of skin you have:

  1. Normal - Even skin tone and texture, no obvious skin problems
  2. Dry - Skin is overly dry, flaky and tight
  3. Oily - Excess oil on the skin, causing breakouts and a shiny complexion
  4. Sensitive - Can have characteristics of other skin types while also experiencing discomfort and inflammation from certain products and ingredients
  5. Combination - Skin is oily in the T-Zone (chin, nose and forehead) while also being dry on the cheeks

Your skin type will greatly influence which type of facial moisturisers will work best for you. If your skin type is oily, an oil-free moisturiser will give you much better results than with one that contains oil and makes your skin worse. If you suffer from dry skin, a thick and creamy face lotion will be much more beneficial.

A lot of people report having combination skin, so finding a men’s moisturiser specifically for combination skin will be highly important. You’ll need something that won’t make your oily areas worse while still hydrating the dry patches of your face.

And finally, if you’re lucky enough to have normal skin, you’ll be able to use most types of moisturisers without much worry.

Although many Asians typically have an oily skin type, you should still check what best describes your skin. Just because your Asian doesn’t mean you can’t have dry skin!

If you’re unsure which cream will work for you, the bottles will usually say what type of skin that specific product is for. Just make sure to read the bottle!

Clinique bottle of moisturiser

Number 1 - Clinique For Men Moisturizer (SPF 21)

Clinique is a well-known name in skin care for a reason. Their moisturiser for men is a solid choice for those with combination skin, one of the most common skin types. Because the base is oil-free, greasy areas of skin are lightened and dry areas are given strong hydration.

As we mentioned, a great skin care product also comes with SPF and this one is no exception. With SPF 21, you’ll protect your skin from harmful sun exposure while also hydrating it, too.

We particularly love this moisturiser for men because it has an incredible absorption rate. Just one drop in your hand and it’ll take seconds to apply to your face, meaning you can get on with your life quicker.

After continued use, you’ll notice softer skin and an even complexion. Overall, an incredible product and our personal favourite!
